Dr. Abha Rajbhandari

Abha is a neuroscientist at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Abha obtained her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studied the role of the brain region called the amygdala in stress-related sensorimotor gating relevant to schizophrenia. Abha did her postdoctoral work at the University of California-Los Angeles, where she studied fear and stress regulation via a specific neuropeptide system relevant to post-traumatic stress disorder.

At the Icahn School of Medicine, Abha studies the brain, vagus nerve, and body mechanisms of fear, stress, and energy metabolism to understand how the brain and body interact with each other in regulating these functions. Her research focuses on developing novel therapeutic avenues for post-traumatic stress disorder. Abha was born in Nepal and moved to the United States to pursue her higher studies after high school. Outside of the lab, she teaches the practice of yoga for stress regulation.

What our students are saying

"I love being connected to people from all over to hear what people have to share: their thoughts, their experiences, their ideas. I shed some joyful tears during the meditation at the end of this one, and that is not uncommon. Dr. Abha is an expert, a thoughtful human, and a fantastic facilitator. This is undoubtedly one of the most important times in my week."

Audrey Lejeune

"Mirabelle is simply amazing. She is as calm as an ocean. Just one class can make your mind serene and calm and her process of thinking is beyond amazing! Many teach meditation but only a few make you understand why, that’s where she is so unique and different! Thanks for helping, appreciate it beyond measure!"

Bhavana Punjabi

"This was a life-changing experience. I have actively sought to learn meditation for some time. To have this meditation course and be taught by such a phenomenal instructor made the experience outstanding. Thank you, Mirabelle"

Wanda

"I was reflecting today on how comfortable Abha makes everyone feel, and how safe it is to speak about difficult topics--- this week on family! Abha has a great way of seeing and hearing you and actively and accurately reflecting back the highlights. She is a treat!"

Frequently asked questions

You’ve got questions. We’ve got answers.

I have been meditating but do not have a science background. Can I still do this course?

Yes, absolutely. This course will provide you with the framework with which to understand your experience and practice of meditation. It will also give you neuro-science-backed knowledge to deepen your meditation and understand experiences and challenges in your meditation practice.

I have a scientific understanding of how meditation changes your brain for the better but struggle to actually practice meditation. Will this help me?

This course will teach you how to meditate in a very simple, progressive manner. In each session, you will learn a simple practical meditation skill and add on a new skill the next week. At each step of the way, we will be troubleshooting any challenges you have. Our accountability practice will help you build this skill in a systematic, supportive way.

I am not able to attend live. Will the sessions be recorded?

Yes, every session will be recorded. Additionally, if you have any questions, you can email them in and we will address them in our call.

I am a beginner to meditation. Will this be suited to me?

Yes, 100%. This is a course for beginners, people who know that meditation can be beneficial but have little or no practice with it.

We will systematically build the understanding, technique, and practice of meditation. You will be able to ask questions and receive guidance as you practice and benefit from the daily accountability in the group setting.

Is there an age group this course is suitable for?

This course is beneficial for anyone aged 12+. It is scientific, simple, and life-changing.

We always recommend revisiting a course a few weeks after you have completed it and had consistent practice. This way you will hear and receive new knowledge and insights from the course.

I live in India/Nepal. Is there a special price for this course in my currency?

We truly believe meditation is life-changing and want as many people tp have access to it as possible.

If you are a citizen of India or Nepal (or South East Asia) living in these countries, please email us at syogaky@gmail.com and we will send you a price that can respect our knowledge and time and your currency power.
