Jivana Heyman : Making Prāṇāyāma Accessible
Jivana’s special gift is making yoga accessible for all. He has specialized in teaching yoga to people with disabilities with an emphasis on community building and social engagement. Out of this work, the nonprofit Accessible Yoga Association was created to support education, training, and advocacy with the mission of shifting the public perception of yoga. In this conversation, we explore the very human challenges, adaptations, considerations, and compassion in both practicing and teaching both breathwork and pranayama.
Aside from the key explorations in this summit, in this conversation, we will discover
- Jivana’s journey and relationship with prana
- How the breath may not be accessible to all
- How prana and breath are different
- How to facilitate pranayama for special populations
- The difference between simplifying pranayama, making it accessible, and cultural appropriation
- Why pranayama is intrinsically a trauma healing practice
- The role of the pranayama teacher
.... and much more
